Hawaiian Music has been evolving into its own unique style, and the homegrown Big Island group Mixjah has been getting a lot of radio play from their first album Got to Be Heard
Mixjah has their roots in Hilo on the East side of the island. They started playing together about 7 years ago, and have turned out to be quite a band. It seems like you can hear Mixjah on the radio every day.
The amazing thing about this group, and the new style of Hawaiian music in general, is that they bridge the generation gap.
Old and young now some of their songs, and actually call the radios and request this Hilo group.
Their debut album came out 2 years ago, and there is at least four songs off it that are on the radio consistently.
This six member band also delivers in concert. More and more I have been disappointed by the ability of bands to play live. It seems most musicians these days only know the studio.
Not so with the new style of Hawaiian Music that these guys have been turning out.
Mixjah definitely holds their own in any concert venue that they play at. Here is a little sample of them live in concert, playing their hit song Bed of Roses.
