South Kona Restaurants

South Kona restaurants tend to be less expensive than Northern Kona and Kohala restaurants. The ambiance, although not as fancy as some of the North Kona and Kohala restaurants, is welcoming and comfortable. What stands out though, is the food. The food is what we believe to be some of the best on the island. From awesome Hawaiian Food, to vegetarian delights, you can find it all in South Kona.

Top picks

Mi's Italian Bistro:

81-6372 Mamalahoa Hwy., Kealakekua, Big Island, HI 96750 Tel: 808-323-3880

Excellent Italian Food at very reasonable prices. $10 to $25 gets you gourmet food. This is a family run restaurant that just opened, and seems destined to stay. Ten to fifteen tables at the most, so it is a good idea to make reservations. Closed on Mondays. Received rave reviews in the first two months it was open from the Hawaii Island Journal Definitely one of our favorites.

Keei Cafe:

79-7511 Mamalahoa Hwy, Kealakekua, HI(808) 322-9992

Again it is a good idea to make reservations ahead of time, as most nights this place is packed. Creative gourmet food, fusing fresh seafood, choice meats, and vegetarian specialties. Priced from $15 to $30 with a full bar available, get ready to be impressed. Another of our favorites.

Super J's:

Authentic Hawaiian Food made fresh every day at his family run operation. Some of the best Lau Laus around, served with Lomi Lomi Salmon, and Poi makes for a awesome lunch.

Aloha Angel Cafe

79-7384 Mamalahoa Hwy Kealakekua, HI 96750

Reservations: 808-322-3383

Family owned and operated this restaurant is also a historic landmark. Built in 1932, the Aloha Theatre gives you a feel of old Hawaii. One of our favorite South Kona Restaurants this establishment serves breakfast lunch and dinner. The only hard part is choosing when to eat there. The breakfasts are excellent with good size portions, and fresh baked goods from their bakery. The dinners are reasonably priced ($15-25) with a good variety of tasty entrees. Of course there is also the theatre. You can enjoy a movie or play, after your dinner. Definitely one of our favorites.
