Whats Happening on the Big Island August 15th- Spetember 15th
Aloha
This is our first e-zine of many to come. We will be putting out a monthly e-zine from here on out, with news on whats new on the Big Island, and whats new on our website. In this issue, you will find an update on the Vog, some news about the upcoming elections, information about our new section on Island Music, a preview of our section on Health and Beauty, and some amazing pictures, we threw in randomly. Enjoy The Vog
Usually on the Big Island the Summer heat peaks in August, but so far this summer has not been that hot. The
vog
might actually be responsible for our good weather. Since Halemaumau started erupting in March, we have had extreme even hazardous vog levels. People have been leaving the island, crops have been dying, and everyone has at least felt the effects in one way or another.
Some useful tips from our
vog blog:
2. Going in the ocean, this seems to help me the most. Even on the vogiest days, it just lifts my spirits, and cleans my body and soul. 3.A Ionic foot bath seemed to make a dramatic difference for one of our bloggers. Basically it just seems like pulling toxins out your body in whatever way works best for you.
2008 Big Island CandidatesWell the big question to me is not who will be the next President, but who will be the next Mayor of the Big Island. There are currently eight candidates for mayor on the ballot for the September 20th primary. The primary is crucial in determining who will be the next mayor. All candidates appear on the primary ballot, and there is a minimum requirement of votes to appear on the general election ballot.
The county council will have a lot of new faces this year, as there are a few of the current council members running for Mayor. The county council elections are just as important in my eyes, because their decisions make huge impacts on the lifestyle here on the Big Island. We have uploaded a bunch of pages on the upcoming elections. To go to our page on all the 2008 Big Island Candidates, follow this link To go to our upcoming Hawaii Events page, where you will find information on three different mayoral debates coming up, follow this link There is also a Blog about the candidates, and the main issues they are dealing with
The Island Music Scene
Our new section on Island Music is the precursor to our music store that will be opening in the next month or so.
Hawaiian Music has always been a unique sound, but nowadays it has evolved from the old slack key and ukulele sound into a fast paced almost reggae sound. You can still find a lot contemporary Hawaiian music that is awesome, but the new style is some of my favorite music to be found.
In this section of our website you will find a small sample of the wealth of talent to be found in the islands. In the future we will bring you samples, recommendations, and a store with cd's, dvd's, clothing, and more.
Health and BeautyThis section of our website is still in the works, but we hope to have it up and running in the next couple of months. We will focus on Nutraceuticals, spas and massage parlors, cleansing programs, holistic retreats, beauty products, and natropaths. Our focus will mostly be on Big Island related products or services. Here is a preview of our upcoming section. Check out our page on Coconut Oil as pictured below.
The wrap upWell thats all for this month, Our Blog of Updates has the most current information listed in the order that we publish it, so check it out. Till next month,2 Scoops Aloha David and Leah |
