This is our second e-zine to date. Inside you will find news on whats new on the Big Island, and whats new on our website. In this issue we will cover a bunch of topics.
We will tell you about current travel rates, which are probably some of the best you will find all year. Also we will give you tips on how to save money on your travel plans.
We will give you a brief overview of the 2008 Ironman World Championship Triathlon, which will take place October 11th in Kona.
Our new health section will be opening up, and we will give you the first look at its contents. No one else will get a look at it for probably another two to three weeks.
Beginning in this issue we will give details on what we think are the hottest upcoming events in the next month.
Our Music Store is up and running, and you can get some incredible deals on Hawaiian and Island style Music.
Finally we have some amazing pictures, we threw in randomly.
Enjoy
2008 Ironman World Championship Triathlon
I went for a run this morning(September 12th) and I was surprised that there were not more Ironmen already here in Kona.
Usually we get a lot of Ironmen showing up early to Kona to get acclimated to the conditions and challenges that the Big Island presents.
But guaranteed they will be here soon, and Kona will be filled with people from all over the world who are here to compete in one of the most grueling tests any athlete can put themselves to.
Personally, I get annoyed with the attitudes of some of the Ironmen, like when they run down Alii Drive side by side in the road, and expect whoever is driving, to make room for them. That said I have to give them a lot of respect, because the 2.6 mile swim 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run is by far one of the greatest tests for a human there is, and some of them do it in 8 hours!!
So if you are on the Big Island, either plan on getting a good spot to witness one of the worlds greatest races ever to take place, or stay far away from Kona on some isolated beach, and try not to think about the madhouse that is taking place on the other side of the island.
One has got to wonder how the vog will effect the Ironman, and if they are even being warned about the conditions they will face. If any one hears about advisories for the Ironman, let me know, and I will post them
Travel Rates are Bottoming Out
Airfare is cheap right now, and I for one am taking advantage of it. My Wife and I are gong to visit our families this month, because the price is right!
We got round trip tickets to Chicago from Kona on United for $800. One of our flights is nonstop, straight through! We could have got a flight for $700 round trip, but the layover in San Fransisco was way to long, especially with our baby. I priced tickets to Chicago a couple months ago, and the price was over $1000 for a round trip ticket.
The reason prices are so low for Hawaii travel, is that it is dead in the middle of the off season. Once Ironman starts up, prices will go up, but if you can jump on this, do it. I saw round trip tickets to LA for $400. That is almost as good as when Aloha was running competition with everybody.
Also if you have someone who has been itching to visit you, right after the Ironman should be a good time for people to come to Kona, and anytime till Thanksgiving should be good for Hilo.
I think I saw packages with four or five nights in a hotel and round trip tickets from $700.

the Music Store

Our new section on Island Music was the precursor to our music store that is now open.
Hawaiian Music has always been a unique sound, but nowadays it has evolved from the old slack key and ukulele sound into a fast paced almost reggae sound.
You can still find a lot contemporary Hawaiian music that is awesome, but the new style is some of my favorite music to be found.
Now you can not only get a look at the bands that are getting the play on the radio stations of the Big Island, but you can also buy Cd's, Dvd's, and even clothing at great prices, on our site.
Whats New on our Site: Health and Beauty
This section of our website is still in the works, but it is getting pretty close to being done, but until then, the only way to view some of these pages, is through this e-zine.
This new section will focus on Nutraceuticals, spas and massage parlors, cleansing programs, holistic retreats, beauty products, and natropaths. We all know this Island has incredible healing energy, and this section will give you a overview of the products and services on and from the Big Island.
Here is a preview of our upcoming section. Below are links to some pages that will be in our Health and Beauty section.
There is a in depth page on Coconut Oil.
The Big Island has become known for growing the Best Spirulina. That page has all the info on Spirulina, and a link to a site that has some of the best prices on all kinds of Nutraceuticals.
Recently Leah had her first Kona Day Spa experience, and she tells that story, and gives a review of the Kalona Spa in Keauhou.
On the Puna side there is a number of holistic retreats. Not just retreat centers, but actual healing centers.
Pamela White conducts intensive cleansing programs at her Wellness Retreat, and also conducts seminars such as the Lymphatic Therapy Seminar they held earlier in September.
Last but not least in this preview we have Dr Niclole Baylac's Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center Dr Baylac is a licensed Natropath, and has a wide variety of services from her center.
Upcoming Events September 15th to October 15th
Our calender of Hawaii events is getting to be one of the most comprehensive for the Big Island of Hawaii. The Hilo Ho`olaule`a is the biggest party on the island, with multiple stages, and over ten bands performing in one night, if you are looking for a good time, this party delivers. For More information, and a list of bands playing, click here
Mealani's Taste of the Hawaiian Range, is the ultimate focus on buying local. With fresh island beef, poultry, fish, produce and more.
