As part of its 45th anniversary celebration, the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawai‘i (“ACLU”) will hold a free, public meeting on Friday, October 30th at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, room UCB 330, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Recently elected affiliate president Barbara Ankersmit and staff members of the legal, legislative and public education programs of the ACLU will be on hand with the latest updates on the ACLU’s work. Hawai‘i Island board member Barbara Franklin said: “We look forward to hearing from and sharing with the community about the challenges facing civil liberties, and how the ACLU can continue to be a leader in the fight for justice and equality for the next 45 years.”

This event is sponsored by the University of Hawaii at Hilo Departments of Political Science and Administration of Justice.

RSVPs are requested by October 26th, but walk-ins on the evening of the event are also welcome. UH Hilo is ADA-accessible. Requests for disability accommodation should be made by October 20th. To RSVP, call (808)522-5906, email office@acluhawaii.org, or mail to P.O. Box 3410 Honolulu, HI 96801.

The mission of the ACLU of Hawai‘i is to protect the civil liberties contained in the state and federal constitutions through litigation, legislative and public education programs statewide. The ACLU is funded primarily through private donations and offers its services at no cost to the public. The ACLU does not accept any government funds.
