Big Island News: DLNR CLOSES MULIWAI TRAIL AND WAIMANU VALLEY CAMPGROUND DUE TO DANGEROUS HIGH SURF CONDITIONS

HILO – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has closed the remote Muliwai Trail on the island of Hawai‘i, and will not be issuing camping permits for Waimanu Valley, due to current dangerous high surf conditions that threaten the beach campground and other coastal areas in the state.

"We appreciate the public's patience and understanding of this action to ensure the safety of campers in this remote location,” said Laura H. Thielen, DLNR chairperson.

Camping permits will not be issued for Waimanu Valley campground until dangerous high surf conditions have abated.
