DLNR BEGINS REPAIRS TO HAPUNA BEACH PAVILION, GAZEBOS
The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) yesterday began repairs to areas of Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area that were damaged by the 2006 earthquake.
Workers yesterday began repairing seating areas in six gazebos that suffered damage from the earthquake.
"We appreciate the public's patience during this improvement project and ask that they exercise caution and observe any construction barriers. The rest of the park will remain open to the public as normal," said Dean Takebayashi, State Parks Hawai‘i district superintendent.
In addition, Solution Contracting which was contracted by DLNR, will be making repairs to the south end pavilion and comfort station between December 11, 2010 to January 14, 2011. Those facilities will not be available to the public during that time. The work will include repairs to walls on both the pavilion and comfort station that were dislodged during the earthquake; wood beam repairs in the comfort station; and repairs to seating areas on the outer walls of the pavilion.
Construction work is scheduled to be completed by mid-February, 2011. The construction cost for the project is $89,000.
