Great Waikoloa Poke Contest Sunday September 07, 2008
Poke anyone? This is the place! Experience “Hawaii’s Soul Food” at a cool food contest you’re not likely to see anywhere else. Poke (poh-KEH, “to cut”) is a tasty dish from traditional Hawaiian cuisine, originally made from cubed raw fish, seaweed, sea salt and kukui nuts.
Today, poke takes on a new attitude with creative preparation limited only by a chef’s imagination. Fish, seafood, even tofu— combined with a wide variety of veggies and nuts, seeds, seasonings, spices and secret ingredients –makes for delicious results.
The Poke Contest gives home cooks and professional chefs a chance to compete in separate divisions for cash and prizes. And everybody’s a winner as the audience gets their chance to taste the entries after judging.
