Hawaiian Sovereignty: I want to help free our nation!

by Alysha Irene Alohilani Gouveia
(Everett, Washington)

Born and raised in Hawai'i, I was always proud of where I, and my family comes from. However when I was five or six years old my parents decided they wanted to move to the mainland. Of course being a child I had no choice in it. However, I always came back home to visit my family, picking up more on our Hawaiian history as I grew older.

Now nearly 19, I am fully aware of how hypocritical the United States is, especially with it's "territories" it has just taken over. First with the Native Americans, and then my attention was brought over to Hawai'i.

I was pretty much heartbroken when I saw an article from a while ago where the Hawaiian Sovereignty group took over the I`olani Palace and the article was written in a way to make the group seem like horrible people. It was then that I wanted to find out as much as I can about this.. and here I am.

Is there anything I can do?

Educate and Motivate!
by: David

Education is one of the best things that you can be participating in.

The key is learning how to stay neutral when you run across confrontational circumstances, and respond with information that is correct and to the point.

The facts are all there, and is hard for someone to argue with them.

People do get goofy, and they call names, and say things like Hawaii would be a third world country, and blah blah blah. The key is to be secure in the knowledge you have, and know that they are just ignorant.

This will lead to you motivating others to pursue the truth, so they can have that same power, because knowledge is truly power.

Whether it be about GMO's, Hawaiian issues, Native American Issues, or even cooking.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you have.

An American's Thoughts
by: J. L. Flint

I find that when I approach this subject people just get defensive or hostile, they refuse to listen to the facts. Education only works if people have an open mind, and at least here in Butler, MO that is a rare commodity. While there may be those ready to hear and positively respond to the truth about Hawai'i they are appearently few and far between in the U.S.. It is difficult to get a comment in a local paper, even if well written. Larger news venues have more call to ignore such submissions. Untill Hawaiian issues receive broader coverage, there will be a credibility factor at work. The few of us who know and care do so alone for the most part. Even so it is important to hear that the message is out there and available. If someone like me knows, others must too. What I do may not make a difference, but that's o.k.. Thank you for the forum to speak out. Aloha 'aina

Confused Issue
by: Anonymous

I farmed for many years on the Big Island, and know many "true" Hawaiians, that is, Hawaiians with Polynesian blood, and not just locals.
Many old-timers tell me they have been better off in Hawaii, being a part of the United States. Why does everyone who rants and raves about Hawaiian sovereignty ignore the fact that many "true" Hawaiians are happy with the way things went?
As much complaining as there is in Hawaii about "haoles" and the U.S., they should be thankful that I am not in charge of the matter. If it was up to me, I would pull everything American out of there, INCLUDING THE MONEY, and let the "Hawaiians" have these lousy little islands back, and let them figure it out on their own. YOU WANT IT BACK, TAKE IT.

who owes who what?
by: waianaeboy

why do AmeriKKKans think that they have brought Hawaiians wealth? Because that is what they value. Not life or people...They value wealth. As if the world depends on America for all wealth or technology. What kukai. To this very day they invade, kill the native peoples and steal the natural resources(wealth)of weaker nations. Then they go and spread lies that they came to fight evil and to spread freedom and liberty(Iraq).Iolani palace had indoor plumbing(toilet) and electricity when the US white house still used an OUT HOUSE...Technology is a product of the mind, everyone has one, try using it sometime and not limit yourself to the propaganda so lovingly spoon fed to all the children of ameriKKKa.
