Mauna Kea: Top of the World! Sunset Nov 11th 2010

We were coming back from Hilo on the saddle around sunset, so we took a spontaneous trip up to the top of Mauna Kea. The Summit is the tallest of the Hawaiian Island Mountain Peaks, up above 13,000 ft. We went at Sunset, which is amazing, but the real show begins when the stars come out. you feel like you are in the heavens, like you could reach out and touch a star. The visitor center has telescopes they bring out on Thursdays, and you can use them to check out the heavens in all their splendor.
