Alohas Everyone!

This year proved to be our busiest yet. How about all of you? Bigisland-Bigisland.com is getting completely redone. We hope to make it fun and formidable to everybody. We will be cutting a lot of the submission forms out, and putting more easy-to-read information and graphics. There will be a lot more pictures of the beautiful island and pop culture as well. Two residences and two broken computers later, we are back on the scene. *phew* Peace Makahiki is almost here! Let us reap the abundance that we've sewn all War season long. Let's get on to some current events and a new favorite eatery.

J-Boogs & Anuhea's CD release party, November 5th

J-Boog has hooked up with the King Kamehameha hotel again for his CD release party and he brought Hawaii's sweetheart Anuhea for another Mayjah Rayjah. It will also be Josh Heinrichs Official CD Release Party. A Hawaii concert-Others performing will be Cease Fyah , Hot Rain and H Trey. Doors open @ 5:00 pm, all ages show, guaranteed to be huge. Buy tickets online @ www.MayjahRayjah.com or @ Waimea Surf classics. November 5th, 2011 @ 5:00 pm King Kamehameha Hotel.

Steve Miller @ Hilton December 10th

I do believe that REO Speedwagon has sold out, however there are still tickets for the Steve Miller Band Concert. Remember to bring your own lawn chair, you know dakine that you can sling onto your back like a backpack. The fools over at the Waikoloa Hilton sell more tickets than they put out chairs for. (Just a Handy Tip!) Sat, Dec 10, 2011 08:00 PM. I think the tickets will be running from $60-$85. Best place to get tickets is @ ticketmaster.com. Get it while you can! Take your woman to the Steve Miller concert and shake the peaches on her tree. (Alright!)

My Favorite: Shivalik Indian Cuisine Kona

I have to tell everyone how much I love this restaurant Shivalik Indian Cuisine~

In a world of bitter hydrogeny, there is a full flavor, healthy food oasis on Ali'i Drive...Shivalik Indian Cuisine Kona. I really love this restaurant...we have not been going out to eat that much, but when we do-we go here. Their Buffet is $13.95 11am to 3pm. Shivalik is right above Whaler's General Store where Palani corners Ali'i Drive. (Entrance directly to the right of Whaler's) The food is brilliantly flavored, with generous use of saffron, black coriander, pink pepper, 'olena, and ginger...just to name a few of the spices they use. If you have not tried Middle Eastern Indian food yet, please do soon.

Thousands of years in Ayurvedic herbal medicine in beautiful tasting foods. I love the authentic taste from the Tandoor, an Old-World style Indian clay oven. I love the vegetarian appetizer platter to start...it includes spinach pakora fluffs, two large samosa (crispy pockets of peas, potatoes and seasonings) and fried chunks of the world reknown Indian Paneer cheese...please enjoy this with the three little chutneys-a cilantro lime spinach sauce, a red pickled onion sauce, and the brown tamarind-date sauce. Don't forget the savory pancake Naan breads, in a variety of flavors... For a sweet, spicy kick be sure to try a small dish of the Achar, mixed pickled veggies with generous seasonings.

Entrees consist of lamb, chicken, shrimp and local fish. (They can be ordered Mild or Hot to suit your taste!) There are *satisfying* vegetarian/vegan entrees as well. Some of my favorites are Navratan Korma, mixed veggie dumplings surrounded by saffron threads and smothered in a heavenly cashew curry sauce. I also love the Tandoor chicken, marinated in yogurt and baked in high heat to tender perfection...Coconut fish curry is a heavenly concoction as well. David loves the Spinach Paneer, a curried spinach soup with chunks of Paneer Cheese. Most entrees are soupy so don't forget the "Queen of Fragrance"-Basmati rice. If things get a little warm, be sure to try the Taj Mahal Beer or a Lassi, an ice-cold Indian milkshake with exotic flavors such as rosewater, salt & pepper, and mango.

Indian desserts are heavenly as well...Gulab Jumin, fried milk dumplings drizzled with rosewater syrup,- Kheer, a creamy sweet rice pudding, or Halwa, a cardamom carrot pudding. Please refer to their website @ www.shivalikindiancuisine.com

There is discounted parking when you mention the restaurant's name at the King Kam Hotel. However, I usually park on the mauka side of Kalani Rd. across from the mini mall, at the mini mall itself, or we park at the lot behind Coconut Grove when we feel like taking an oceanside stroll after dinner. There is also the free parking lot beside the Kona Seaside Hotel, behind the Ali'i drive business buildings. Do check out this little gem when you are in Kona Town. Might I add as well, they have the cleanest tasting frying oil I've ever tasted anywhere on the island. These people do not skimp on quality.
