New years Eve Road Trip, and Upcoming Year January 07, 2011 |
Well it is 2011, so Happy New Year to everyone! Hope this finds you well and Blessed in all you do.
We took a road trip to Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park, the day before New Years 2011, and this is a recount of our adventures and a look at some of the things we saw along the way.
![]() With eclectic red glass decorating and a fullservice bar, this place is no less than a breath-taker. I started my meal with Freshly baked pita chips and hummus/feta/cucmber dip. My only quip with the hummus was that I did not taste a generous helping of Tahini. Without Tahini, hummus is just mashed garbanzo paste. Fresh nonetheless, and took up space in my stomach by being healthy. The Second course I ordered was the crab cake salad. A Fancy Japanese mayonnaise inspired sauce went over the panko-crusted cakes, including a sweet, delightful sesame seed/oil dressing to go on the fresh island greens, with pleasant clippings of wanton-chip throughout. I would definitly eat this again and again. I ended the dinner with a Hamakua Mushroom pot-pie, a vegetarians delight. The crust was true-to-form pastry, you can tell that cold butter was incorporated in the blending, resluting in a forgiving flakiness. The mushrooms were thick meaty and bold, and the pie-filling wasn't too heavy or oily. The pie had the right proportion of crispy, savory and creamy.
Dec. 30th we decided to take a "pre_New_Years" excurison of sorts/. this involved getting our butts of the west side and go for a trip 'round the island. We decided to rent a cozy B&B (hey, once a year kama aina getaway everyone deserves. ) We signed up at the Happu fern b b. Really nice and clean hawaiiana with all the amenities, even the hottub. With it being located 6 mi away from Volcanoes national park, my husbadn treatied me to my first trip to the hawaiian volcanoes national park.
Well that's all for now I know we haven't been that active, but we should be back in full swing soon Our Blog of Updates has the most current information listed in the order that we publish it, so check it out. Till next month, 2 Scoops Aloha David and Leah
