Important Meeting on Keei Shoreline Access
Be aware of the plan
Over the past year,Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate (KS/BE)has been developing a management plan for its properties in and around Keei Village on Kealakekua Bay in South Kona. KS/BE has held a series of community meetings to solicit input from the local residents. Some of the actions proposed at those meetings — such as closing or putting a gate on the existing Keei Beach Road and limiting or prohibiting public parking along the shoreline at Keei — would severely threaten access to the public shoreline at Keei by members of the wider community of Kona and West Hawaii.
KS/BE will hold a final meeting on Sept. 12, at
9:30 a.m. in the Honaunau Elementary School
Cafeteria, to present the plan it has formulated for Keei. Since this proposed management plan could have serious consequences for access to the shoreline at Keei by surfers, swimmers,
fishermen, divers, and other ocean lovers, it is
important that anyone who is concerned with protecting public access to the shoreline in Hawaii attend this meeting and become
informed.
