2008 Kona Fishing TournamentsKona Fishing Tournaments are held in the late spring and summer, because that is when the Pacific Blue Marlin is the most active in our waters. Sometimes weighing in at over a thousand pounds, this is definitely the fish to catch.
People flock in from all over the world to enter into Kona tournaments because of the great fishing. Our coastlines give way to 2,000 ft deep waters in about five to ten minutes out of the harbor. Tournaments are run out of the Honokohau Harbor, just two miles north of Kailua Kona.Here you will find Marlin, Spearfish, Ahi, Ono, Mahi Mahi, and more. But everybody is after the Marlin, because that is what wins the tournaments. The bigger the fight, the bigger the prize.
If you are interested in entering into one of the tournaments, and you don't have a boat, I suggest you charter one ASAP. The charter boats get booked up long before a tournament begins. Kona has had more Blue Pacific Marlins landed then any where else in the world, with 55 females over the 1000 pound mark! Who Will bring in the next one?
